I was honored when the poet David Gate reached out about collaborating on an art print. David knew he wanted to include a collage art style alongside his poem, “I Am Not Your Cup of Tea”. This was an interesting challenge for me, as I typically don’t include so much text in my collage work, but that’s where my design layout skills came in handy.

To ensure the poem held it’s weight, it was #1 in the hierarchy. Front and center. I colorized a vintage creative commons image and added a ripped paper effect up top. This obscured person could be the one saying or thinking the poem, or someone else could be thinking it about them. Through that interpretation, the person gives an aspect of human connection.
