September ‘20 Playlist | Music to Listen to While Baking a Cake

September '20 Playlist | Julia Walck

The September playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from Cut Copy, Phoenix, Sufjan Stevens, Father John Misty and more. 🎶 Have a listen below.

Here's the highlights:

  • Starting off this month’s playlist with a throwback to Port of Morrow era Shins. “I've been down the very road you're walking now. It doesn't have to be so dark and lonesome. It takes a while but we can figure this thing out. And turn it back around.” These lyrics feel like such a good metaphor for what we’re collectively going through right now. Hang in there!

  • Beck re-released his 2019 album Hyperspace as a visual album in an AI video collaboration with NASA. Seems only too natural for Beck! I’ve been listening to this album a lot recently and keep coming back to the track “Uneventful Days” (for obvious reasons, hello 2020). Watching the AI exploration video for “Uneventful Days” feels so soothing – maybe it’s because I’d much rather be exploring the landscape of the moon than the landscape of my apartment right now. You can watch the AI exploration video for “Uneventful Days” here, and can find the rest of them on Beck’s YouTube page here.

  • “It’s So Good” by Blackbird Blackbird is indeed so good. It’s not much in terms of lyrics but the beat feels so joyful, and that simplicity is what I need right now.

  • Hot Chip remixed Daði Freyr’s “Think About Things”. Pre-remix the song was amazing but I just love the classic, synth-y Hot Chip spin on it! Speaking of Hot Chip… they’re playing a virtual gig this month on September 5 called “Live In Streamland”. (On my birthday! The best present!) Some tickets are still available here. See you on the virtual dancefloor!
