Moon Block Party Festival
The Moon Block Party Festival happened last weekend at the Pomona Fairplex. All of the stages were surprisingly intimate with each band. Definitely the most mellow festival I've ever been to (except the moment when The Black Lips played and the pit opened up).
I'd never heard of The Black Angels before, but quickly fell in love with their psychedelic sound. The patterns projected onto the canvas behind them, and on themselves was so entrancing to watch. That together made for one hell of a show.
I finally got to see Spoon (the band, not the utensil)! I waited in the very front of the stage for about 5 hours until they came on. They've been one of my favorite bands since around middle school or so, and it's just never worked out with me catching a gig.
When I saw Divine Fits (composed of Britt Daniel from Spoon and Dan Boeckner from Handsome Furs / Wolf Parade) two years ago at Coachella, they were good. Seeing Spoon last weekend? Great. Hands down, fantastic. Plus, I got one of their setlists! Which is now proudly hanging up on my wall.
Now, to wait until next year when Moon Block Party rolls back around.
