Technicolor Dreams, 4"x6"

Technicolor Dreams, 4"x6"

The long weekend gave me time to catch up on some projects I've been working on (and to start new ones!)

I also had time to go antiquing! I scored this cute, 70's sewing box which is now the home to my needles and threads.

I felt like this black and white photo needed some color, so I gave it a rainbow and let that family see in color.

Here's what the back of the photo looks like, too. Little frayed rainbows!

Sweet, 3"x3"

Sweet, 3"x3"

I started "Sweet" a while ago and finally wrapped it up this weekend. It was my first typographic embroidered photo and was slightly more challenging to finish.

I hope your 3 day weekend was as sweet as this couple!

The Face of an Angle, 2.5"x3.5"

The Face of an Angle, 2.5"x3.5"

I've been seeing a lot of embroidery everywhere lately and thought I'd give it a shot. I started with embroidering a washed out polaroid a few weeks back; it was kind of tough due to the thickness of the film so I tried it out on thinner photographs.

I found an assortment of vintage photos at the Melrose Trading Post and stumbled upon a 20 pack of colored thread while I was there, too. If that wasn't a sign to start new projects I don't know what is.

So far I've just done these 3 pieces but I'm overflowing with ideas. I'm excited to try out different techniques, color mixing and size variations.

Bobby Pin Polka Dot Nails DIY by Julia Walck

Last week, I painted my nails in a cute floral pattern using a bobby pin and nail polish. I got so many compliments and people asking how I did it so I thought, why not do a DIY?!

Here's a super simple polka dot nail tutorial; skip the salon for those fancy "extra design" charges and do it yourself for free!

SUPPLIES:

  • 2 contrasting colors of nail polish.
  • topcoat
  • a pulled apart bobby pin

HOW TO DIY:

  • Paint your nails with the base color (double up on this!)

  • Let your nails dry.

  • Dip the bobby pin into your second color. It doesn't matter what side of the bobby pin you use.

  • Press down gently on your nails making a polka dot pattern. Use more polish for bigger dots and less polish for tiny dots.

  • Sit back and wait for the dots to dry. You might want to give yourself a few extra minutes on this to prevent smudging.

  • Apply topcoat.

  • Voila! Now you have super fun patterned nails. High five! (but make sure your polish is dry first)

Make Every Day Haturday by Julia Walck

I just wrapped up a project I've been working on for most of the month: I wore a different hat every day for 27 days straight and NO ONE NOTICED!

Yes I own 27 hats. 28 if you count my hattoo. (I don't have a problem!!!) I also have a hashtag for myself on Instagram you can take a peek at

Here's an individual breakdown day by day.
*Note: If you're on a phone you've got a bit of scrolling to do!

It's a bit relieving to not take a photo every day anymore, but I did like watching the progression over the span of a month. Coming up with a completely new outfit each day and not repeating anything except for my smile was a fun challenge.

All in all, I guess if I got anything out of this project it's 27 new profile photos.
