October '19 Playlist | Julia Walck

The October playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from Babe Rainbow, DeVotchKa, Broken Bells, STRFKR and more. 🎶Have a listen below. (PS! Fun fact brought to you from this month's artwork: this image was originally from a toothpaste ad to prevent "morning breath" back in the day!)

Here's the highlights:

  • Foals next album, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost - Part 2, comes out October 18!

  • I discovered a rad new artist named Goth Babe via music recommendation on Instagram stories a couple weeks back. He writes and records his music in the back of a camper on the California/Oregon coast using solar power. How cool is that?!

  • Spoon released a rare track titled “Shake it Off”, originally recorded circa A Series Of Sneaks, and it is definitely not to be confused with T-Swift.

  • And finally, Broken Bells is back with a new single as they continue to tease a new album!

September '19 Playlist | Julia Walck

The September playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from Bombay Bicycle Club, Foals, Elbow, Whitney and more. 🎶Have a listen below.

Here's the highlights:

  • It’s been five long years of waiting… Bombay Bicycle Club is finally back with new music! Just a single for now, but rumor has it a new album is coming soon.

  • !!! (Chk Chk Chk)’s new album, Wallop, dropped last Friday. Get on your dancing shoes and cue the confetti. “Couldn’t Have Known” is up there as one of my favorites off of the album.

  • With September as my birthday month it only felt appropriate to include “Big Wow” off of Beach Baby’s latest album because of the lyrics, “Happy Birthday, blow out the candles on your cake”. Also because it’s good and you should have a listen!

  • I’ve been following my friend Anthony’s band, The Lovepools, for a while now and it’s been awesome following their journey while they discover their sound and try out new things. I’m into the new synthy track they recently released titled “White Lies & Palm Trees”.

The August playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from Bonobo, Poolside, Andrew Bird, Ty Segall and more. 🎶Have a listen below.

Here's the highlights:

  • Ty Segall’s new album, First Taste, is out tomorrow.

  • Bonobo dropped a new single! If you didn’t catch it earlier this year, Bonobo released a DJ mix album, which can hopefully tie you over until their next full length comes out.

  • Andrew Bird released a music video for “Olympians” off of his recent album My Finest Work Yet. It’s chock full of green screen goodness and you should probably go watch it. Also! Andrew Bird is doing a free show at KCRW HQ on August 17! If you’re in LA, you should go!

August 2018 Playlist | Julia Walck

The August playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from DeVotchKa, Jungle, Wild Nothing, Delicate Steve and more. 🎶 Have a listen below.

Here's the highlights:

  • Remember that ethereal cinematic track "The Winner Is" from Little Miss Sunshine? Well DeVotchKa is back with more dreamy tunes! Perfect for listening while staring out the window of a slowly moving car pretending you're in an indie film.
  • This wave of new Jungle releases is really making me happy. Their new album For Ever comes out September 14!
  • Big Red Machine is a new collaborative project between Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver) and Aaron Dessner (of The National). A bit experimental and a bit of the familiar from both of them.
  • Wild Nothing is back with new music! Catch them at The Regent in October.

July 2018 Playlist | Julia Walck

The July playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, El Ten Eleven, Lykke Li and more. 🎶 Have a listen below.

Here's the highlights:

  • St. Vincent re-worked her track "Slow Disco" and dubbed it "Fast Slow Disco". Pretty self explanatory. Pretty great.
  • Interpol has new tunes! A full length is coming out in August. You can catch them at The Hollywood Bowl in October.
  • M. Ward released an entire album unannounced at the start of June titled What a Wonderful Industry.
  • The Gui Boratto remix of Paul Simon's "That Was Your Mother" has been my go-to running song lately.
