The May playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from Hot Chip, Beck, Anderson .Paak, The Black Keys and more. 🎶Have a listen below.

Here's the highlights:

  • Beck is back with another collab song ft. Pharrell titled “Saw Lightning”.

  • Hot Chip released a new single and announced an upcoming album. If you know me, you know that Hot Chip is one of my favorite bands and I’m so excited! (I’m actually seeing them tonight! Ahh!) The music video for Hungry Child is a wild ride and I suggest you give it a watch here. “A Bathfull of Ecstasy” is out June 21st.

  • The Raconteurs also announced a new album! It’s also out June 21st and is titled, “Help Us Stranger”.

The May playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from Tom Misch, Leon Bridges, Lord Huron, Melody's Echo Chamber and more. 🎶Have a listen below.

Here's the highlights:

  • New music from Leon Bridges is the opposite of his latest single "Bad Bad News", it's Good Good News! Even better news: I'll be seeing him at The Greek in September!
  • It's been a while since we've heard from Friendly Fires. They were one of my highschool jams, and they've still got it with their happy, poppy beats as heard on "Love Like Waves".
  • Have you listened to King Tuff's new album yet? "Raindrop Blue" is my favorite track, but it was hard to choose with so many good ones!
  • I just got back from The National's Homecoming Festival where I saw Lord Huron for the first time! It was SUCH a great show. And hearing "Wait by the River" right next to a river? Amazing. "Moonbeam" is another one of my favorites from their new album Vide Noir

It's May! Are you as tired as I am of seeing this photo everywhere the past couple days? Every. Damn. Year. Probably for the rest of our lives. Thanks, J.T.

Anyways back to new music!

  • Sylvan Esso's new album, "What Now" released last Friday! My favorite track is hands down, "Just Dancing", and it's also what I do when I listen to the song: dance. They're playing a gig at the Hollywood Palladium on Friday, August 25. See you there? Cool.
  • Suprise new tunes from Phoenix! A new full length is set for release on June 9.
  • Fujiya & Miyagi have a new EP.
  • "Thinking of a Place" is a powerful return for The War On Drugs. It's an 11 minute dream-like haze of a song and I want to be lost in it forever.

Mother's Day is May 14! *Call your mom this month and tell her you love her.

Make Every Day Haturday by Julia Walck

I just wrapped up a project I've been working on for most of the month: I wore a different hat every day for 27 days straight and NO ONE NOTICED!

Yes I own 27 hats. 28 if you count my hattoo. (I don't have a problem!!!) I also have a hashtag for myself on Instagram you can take a peek at

Here's an individual breakdown day by day.
*Note: If you're on a phone you've got a bit of scrolling to do!

It's a bit relieving to not take a photo every day anymore, but I did like watching the progression over the span of a month. Coming up with a completely new outfit each day and not repeating anything except for my smile was a fun challenge.

All in all, I guess if I got anything out of this project it's 27 new profile photos.

May '16 Playlist by Julia Walck

I hope that May is going to be a bit more relaxed of a month. I've been so busy with work and freelance projects lately I haven't really had a moment for myself.

May is a month of re-birth with all those flowers and whatnot right? I want to translate that re-birth into my art and get back into the swing of things. (Hopefully that sentiment sticks this time.)

Here's some highlights from the May-list (May Playlist... get it?).

  • You'll find TWO Operators songs on here because I'm slightly obsessed with them at the moment. I can't stop listening to their new album, Blue Wave. It's SO GOOD.
  • M83 released a new full length album, Junk. They played a couple off of it at Coachella and it was a super dreamy show.
  • The Thermals have a new album and I'm getting some serious High School flashbacks.
  • I just found out that Digitalism's new album drops on May 13 (brb marking it on my calendar). This is what I call my "in-the-zone" music, a.k.a what's blasting through my headphones while I'm designing.
  • Despite all of the above, my favorite song on this May-list has to be "Looped" by Klasmos. It's a moody, dancy, weightless track that just leaves me happy.
