July '18 Playlist by Julia Walck

July 2018 Playlist | Julia Walck

The July playlist is here! Ft. new tunes from Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, El Ten Eleven, Lykke Li and more. 🎶 Have a listen below.

Here's the highlights:

  • St. Vincent re-worked her track "Slow Disco" and dubbed it "Fast Slow Disco". Pretty self explanatory. Pretty great.
  • Interpol has new tunes! A full length is coming out in August. You can catch them at The Hollywood Bowl in October.
  • M. Ward released an entire album unannounced at the start of June titled What a Wonderful Industry.
  • The Gui Boratto remix of Paul Simon's "That Was Your Mother" has been my go-to running song lately.

Today marks 2 years of my monthly playlists! Here's one for hot summer days and warm summer nights.

Here's some highlights from the July playlist:

  • Bonobo has more new music!? And they announced another Los Angeles show in September. I don't know if I can justify seeing him 4 times in 1 year though... haha.
  • I'm ready to dance my ass off to Motor City Drum Ensemble at Panorama later this month. I'm all about percussion-heavy dance music, but we'll see how well I hold up in New York summer humidity.
  • Phoenix's new album is out! Let me just say, ti amo, Ti Amo.
  • Cage the Elephant covered "Whole Wide World" by Wreckless Eric. This song always reminds me of this scene from Stranger Than Fiction (one of my favorite movies).

Have a happy 4th of July!

July '16 Playlist by Julia Walck

Today marks a year that I've been doing my monthly playlists accompanied with monthly drawings to go along with 'em. (Apparently I skipped January and February. Those were times of transition for me though so I'm totally OK with that and I'm giving myself a 'get out of jail free' pass).

This month I'm seeing Steven Tyler, (free tickets through work so why not, right?), Mayer Hawthorne, Kyle Craft, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, and BØRNS.  Most of them are free shows through KCRW Summer Nights, which you should totally look into

Here's some highlights from the July playlist:

  • I got instant goosebumps listening to "Middle Names" by Devendra Banhart. Their new album, Ape in Pink Marble debuts in September.
  • Car Seat Headrest sounds like Tapes 'n Tapes infused with a hint of Modest Mouse. SUPER into it.
  • The day I discovered Kyle Craft, I bought tickets to his show at the Bootleg happening on Friday, July 8. (You should go, too. It's only $9)!
  • White Sea might sound familiar because she used to be in M83.
