Little bursts of inspiration are what I try to look for every day. Here's some things as of late that inspired me/made me happy.

I filled my shower with balloons just because. It's super fun and I'm leaving it like this forever! (aka until the balloons pop).

I went to a Creative Mornings talk last Friday where Jen Gotch spoke about compassion. My favorite quote of the morning was "Everyone is nuts, creatives are just better at exposing it."

Comparison Will Kill You by Julia Walck

This phrase has been on my mind a lot lately.

Honestly sometimes I get jealous. I’ll look at someone else’s art and say, “why didn’t I think of that”, and I’ll try to make my work ‘as good' as theirs.

I have to remind myself: it’s not a contest, it’s creativity. Don’t try to meet someone else’s standards, create your own. ✌🏼

Embroidered Vintage Photograph | Parrot Head by Julia Walck

I've been finding myself at a lot of tiki bars lately, and got inspired to do an embroidered parrot. What better way than to do a literal parrot head? Jimmy Buffett approved.🍹

I actually think the back is kind of cooler than the front. It's cool to see the "behind the scenes" to a piece, especially when it's a tangled mess of thread!

Some work in progress (WIP) photos below.

Technicolor Dreams, 4"x6"

Technicolor Dreams, 4"x6"

The long weekend gave me time to catch up on some projects I've been working on (and to start new ones!)

I also had time to go antiquing! I scored this cute, 70's sewing box which is now the home to my needles and threads.

I felt like this black and white photo needed some color, so I gave it a rainbow and let that family see in color.

Here's what the back of the photo looks like, too. Little frayed rainbows!

Sweet, 3"x3"

Sweet, 3"x3"

I started "Sweet" a while ago and finally wrapped it up this weekend. It was my first typographic embroidered photo and was slightly more challenging to finish.

I hope your 3 day weekend was as sweet as this couple!

The Face of an Angle, 2.5"x3.5"

The Face of an Angle, 2.5"x3.5"

I've been seeing a lot of embroidery everywhere lately and thought I'd give it a shot. I started with embroidering a washed out polaroid a few weeks back; it was kind of tough due to the thickness of the film so I tried it out on thinner photographs.

I found an assortment of vintage photos at the Melrose Trading Post and stumbled upon a 20 pack of colored thread while I was there, too. If that wasn't a sign to start new projects I don't know what is.

Searching for Rainbows, 2.5"x3.25"

So far I've just done these 3 pieces but I'm overflowing with ideas. I'm excited to try out different techniques, color mixing and size variations.
