Blown Away / by Julia Walck

I'm OBSESSED with wind turbines. Don't ask me why; I just think they're super rad.

So post-Coachella we took a windmill tour. It was a bummer we didn't get to go inside of one, but I learned a lot of things about them that I didn't know before.

Did you know the base of a windmill is big enough to drive a car through? (Granted, if there was a door big enough). Or that on most turbines, the wind has to be blowing at 8mph for a certain amount of time for the turbine to start up? It's powered by solar power to get going, but once it's full speed it creates power instead of using it.

Quite possibly the fact that took the cake was there's a job entitled "Wind Gypsy". Wind Gypsies are defined as: people who travel the US cleaning wind turbines.
